EASTER ISLAND MARATHON JUNE 11 |

Diane Kenna, 3:25:32, 2nd overall (among men and women), 1st female. She lost 1st overall by only 33 seconds. She and the #1 guy must have been running together and he must have been scared s***less that a chick would beat him. The dog at mile 25 was probably his.

A quote from Diane:
"Rapa Nui (Easter Island) marathon was an amazing experience! The race was the toughest I've ever run but also the most scenic. There were more horses along the course than spectators which made it a lonely trek, but the rolling hills, ocean views and moai made it memorable. So did nearly drowning in the Pacific during the triathlon two days prior (not wise) and that damn dog attack at mile 25. Special thanks to Michael who sacrificed his chance to medal in the 10k to ride along the marathon course supporting the runners, flirting with the natives and drinking my water."

Top left to right, then bottom left to right:

Kevin and Chuck about to enter battle, chasing certain glory.
100 meters into the race, Kevin reacts to smart-alec remark from Alec (not pictured). Chuck hangs on.
Kevin and Chuck brave wind and fatigue on west side hill, between miles 1 and 2.
Chuck, with about 200 meters to go, fights to the finish with a time of just over 30 minutes.
In the home stretch, Alec enters delirium.

Thanks to Kevin for sending in these photos by his lovely wife Cindy Gordon.
